HANEN PROGRAMS
Out Loud is proud to offer several of the Hanen parent programs to support families of children with language delay (It Takes Two to Talk) or a diagnosis of ASD (More Than Words and Talkability). The Hanen Programs work on the foundation that parents are the most important people in their child’s life, as well as their best teacher.
Each program consists of:
A pre-program consultation for you and your child with the Speech Pathologist;
6-8 training sessions for parents in a small, personalised group, taught by a Hanen Certified Speech Pathologist;
Three individual consultations with your Hanen Certified Speech Pathologist during which:
- You discuss communication goals and specific strategies for your child and;
- You are videotaped interacting with your child during an everyday activity. This video is then reviewed and discussed with you so you can “see” what is helping and what else you can do to help your child learn.
These programs can be funded under Helping Children with Autism, Better Start, Upper South West Autism Trial and the Lower South West My Way Trial.
More Than Words
The More than Words Program is designed specifically for parents of young children (up to the age of 7 years), who have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder. Throughout the program parents learn practical strategies to help their child communicate and interact in everyday activities. Talkability
The Talkability Program is designed to support parents of high functioning verbal children with social communication difficulties, including children who have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder. Throughout the program parents learn practical strategies to help their child “tune in” to the feelings and thoughts of others, which then leads to supporting conversation and developing friendships. It Takes Two To Talk
The It Takes Two to Talk Program supports parents of young children (birth to 5 years), who have delays in their language development. In a small, personalised group setting, parents learn practical strategies to help their children naturally throughout their day together. It Takes Two to Talk is suitable for families of children who are not yet communicating, through to children that are combining 2-3 words together in short phrases.
