PRIVACY AND DIGNITY

Out Loud aims to: 

  • promote good, consistent practices relating to respecting and protecting families' personal privacy and dignity

  • support families to understand Out Loud’s privacy policies 

  • support families to understand what personal information will be collected and why.

 

Policy

Out Loud is committed to protecting and upholding each family’s right to privacy and dignity as it collects, stores and handles information about them, their needs and the services provided to them. Out Loud requires team members to be considered and consistent when writing documents regarding a child and when deciding who has access to information. 

 

Out Loud is subject to NDIS’ Quality and Safeguards Commission rules and regulations and will follow the guidelines of the Australian Privacy Principles in its information management practices. Out Loud will ensure that each family understands, and agrees to, the type of personal information collected and the reasons for collection. If material is to be recorded in an audio or visual format the family must agree to their and their child’s involvement, before any material may be recorded or shared. 

 

Out Loud will advise each family of its Privacy and Dignity Policy, using the language, mode of communication and terms that they are most likely to understand. Out Loud will ensure that: 

  • it meets its legal and ethical obligations as an employer and service provider, concerning protecting the privacy of families and team members 

  • families are provided with information about their rights regarding privacy and confidentiality 

  • families and team members are provided with privacy and confidentiality when being interviewed, assessed or when discussing matters of a personal or sensitive nature 

  • all team members will understand the necessary requirements to meet their obligations 

  • it attempts to access interpreters and provide Easy Read documents when the primary method of communication is not appropriate for a family.

 

Out Loud’s policy conforms to the Federal Privacy Act (1988) and the Australian Privacy Principles, which govern the collection, use and storage of personal information. The policy will apply to all records, whether hard copy or electronic, containing personal information about individuals and to interviews or discussions of a sensitive personal nature.
